Last week we examined the role of the original sin in the purpose of God, and discovered that Eve is the mother of all living. She's the mother of Adam's race, but also, mother of the Serpent's seed. We found there are two races of people on this earth. One created by God, and on the Book of Life. The other, an animal hybrid, with no kinsman and no redemption. Jesus is the second Adam. He is not the second Cain.
According to Genesis 6, God destroyed the world by Flood, because of intermarriage between the race of Adam and Cain's race. The offspring of such unions are serpent's seed. Jesus said this great evil would repeat in our day. And it is.
The Old Testament was a shadow and type of good things to come in the New Testament. As we study the shadows cast by these histories we know what to look for in the future antitype. For example if we are told an elephant is coming, and see its shadow or negative, we have some idea what the positive or elephant will look like. The nearer it approaches, the more distinct the shadow becomes.
Scriptural types show how future unfulfilled prophecies will look. For instance, the first Adam came fresh from the hands of God. He was the spoken Word of God manifest in created flesh. Adam did not sin and of his own free choice willingly lay down his life to save his wife. The second Adam, Jesus Christ, was the Word manifest in virgin-born flesh. He was without sin and freely chose to lay down His life to redeem His wife, the true Church.
So the natural types the Spiritual. To understand the Bible, these shadows and types must run true. Adam was not deceived and did not require redemption; Eve being deceived was in the transgression. Likewise the second Adam, Jesus Christ, was not deceived. His wife, the church, was deceived and needed salvation.
People ask, "If Eve fell that way, what did Adam do, for God lays the blame on Adam?" That's simple. God's Word is forever settled in heaven. Before there was one speck of star dust, that Word, God's law, was there exactly as its written in our Bible. Now the Word teaches us that if a woman leaves her husband and goes with another man she's an adulteress, and is no longer married, and the husband is not to take her back. That Word was true in Eden as it was true when Moses wrote it in the law. The Word can't change.
Before Adam had carnal knowledge of his wife, the Serpent, a man-like creature before God changed his form, had that knowledge ahead of him. Eve was an adulteress. Adam took her back. He knew exactly what he was doing, but he did it anyway. She was a part of him, and he was willing to take her responsibility upon himself. He would not let her go. So Eve conceived by him. He knew she would. He knew exactly what would happen to the human race, and he sold the human race into sin that he might have Eve, for he loved her.
Two sons were born. Cain whose father was the serpent, and Abel whose father was Adam. Sons who would be the fathers of the human race that was even now polluted. And what does the record say of them? Read Jude 14, "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam ..." Genesis 5 gives Enoch's genealogy thus: 1. Adam, 2. Seth, 3. Enos, 4. Cainan, 5. Mahalaleel, 6. Jared, 7. Enoch. Notice, Cain is not mentioned. The line of Adam goes through Seth. If Cain were the child of Adam, the law of the birthright would have placed Cain in the lineage. Also note carefully that Genesis 5:3 says that, "Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name Seth." Nowhere does it say Cain was in Adam's likeness, yet he'd have to be if he were Adam's son, for the law of reproduction is emphatic that each brings forth after its own likeness. We must also credit the fact that in the genealogies in both Genesis and Luke, Cain is missing. If he were the son of Adam it would be said of him somewhere that, "Cain, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God." It does not say that, for it cannot say that.
Students for a long time have set forth two lines of men: one was the godly line found in seth, the other, the ungodly line founded by Cain. And its strange these same students have never told us how it was that Cain was the kind of person he was, while Abel and Seth were of the spiritual, godly line. Factually, Cain should have been spiritual and Abel less spiritual, Seth even less so, and on down the line because each succeeding generation has always strayed further away from God. But no! Cain comes forth as wicked like no other man ever has been described, for he violently withstands God and the Word.
Now Scripture does not play with words. Whatever is in the Record is there for the anointed eyes to see. Its there for a purpose. In that Word it says, "Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of ALL living." But no Scripture ever calls Adam the father of all living. If there is not this connotation to be placed upon Genesis 3:20, why does it state that Eve is the mother of all, and no word said about Adam? The fact is, that Eve IS the mother of all living, but Adam is not the father of all living.
In Genesis 4:1, Eve said, "I have gotten a man from the LORD." She does not credit ADAM with the fatherhood of Cain. But in Genesis 4:25, she says, "... God has appointed me of another seed, instead Abel, whom Cain slew." She does not say God had GIVEN her another seed - that would have been Christ, for He is GIVEN. This son, Seth, was APPOINTED instead of Abel. She recognizes her son that came by Adam; she does not now recognize Cain for he came by the serpent. When she says ANOTHER SEED instead of Abel, she's saying that Cain was DIFFERENT from Abel, for if they were of the same father she'd have had to say, "I've been given some more seed.
I John 3:12 says, "Cain was begotten of that wicked one". Cain was fathered vicariously by Satan through the Serpent. He is Serpent's seed, and is not in the genealogies of the human race.
I don't believe all I read, but LIFE Magazine (March 1, 1963), reports psychiatrists as saying exactly what we're discussing. Now I know all psychiatrists don't agree, but here it is. The fear of snakes is not a conscious revulsion but an unconscious one. If it were a natural fear, people would just as happily stand fascinated before the gorilla or lion cages. Their unconscious thoughts keep them staring at snakes. That lure of snakes is unconsciously sexual. It has been through the ages, as people in successive generations experienced the same thing. Snakes have always been and continue to be repulsively attractive. The snake has always stood for that which is both good and bad. Its been a phallic symbol through the ages. The serpent is the personification of passionate evil as described in the Garden of Eden.
Amongst various uncultured tribes the snake is associated with SEX and often worshipped in conjunction with it. The study of sexology brings that out in many instances. Where did they get that from, seeing they're uneducated and never read the Bible. Even as the story of the Flood is known throughout the world, so is this truth of the fall of man. They knew what happened there in Eden.
Now someone is going to ask me this question: "Did God tell Eve to watch out for the serpent or he'd seduce her?" Listen, God didn't have to say one thing about what would happen. He simply gave the Word, "Do not partake of knowledge". Partake of Life. Life was the Word of God. Death was anything that was not the Word of God. Eve allowed one Word to be changed. Right then Satan had her. God could have said, "Don't pick more fruit off the trees than you can eat." Satan could say, "That's right. You see if you pick too much it'll rot. But here's a method of preserving the fruit and yet at the same time you can pick all you want. So you see, you can have your way and God's way at the same time." The Devil would have her right there. He that's guilty in one point of the law has broken the whole law. Don't fool with that Word.
And what did that tree produce? The Tree of Knowledge produced DEATH. Cain killed his brother, Abel. The wicked killed the righteous. It set a pattern. It will keep that pattern until the restoration of all things as spoken by the prophets.
The Tree of Knowledge produced clever men of renown. But their ways are the way of death. God's people are simple but spiritually minded, leaning toward God and nature, calmly tilling the soil, caring for truth rather than wealth. The seed of the serpent has brought tremendous commerce, wonderful inventions, but with it all comes death. Their gunpowder and atomic bombs kill in war; and their mechanical inventions, such as the car, kill even more in peace time than do the inventions of war destroy in times of trouble. Death and destruction are the fruits of her labors.
But they're religious. They believe in God, like their father, the Devil, and their ancestor, Cain. Both of them believed in God. They go to church. They mingle with the righteous as tares mingle with the wheat. In so doing they corrupt and produce a nicolaitane religion. They spread their poison in order to destroy the seed of God even as Cain killed Abel. There's no fear of God before their eyes.
But God loses none of His own. He keeps them even in death, and has promised that in the last day He will raise them up.
To these Sons of God who overcome by Him is given the privilege of the paradise of God, and the constant fellowship of Jesus Christ. There will never more be any separation from Him. Where He goes, His Bride will go. What is His, He shares with His beloved on a joint-heir relationship. The secret things will be revealed. The dark things made plain. We shall know as we're known. And we shall be like Him. This is the heritage of he who has overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of testimony to Jesus Christ.
"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." Thank God, the true Bride of this last day will listen to the Spirit. In this day of gross darkness the Light's returned by the pure Word, and we'll return to the power of Pentecost for the manifestation of the Sons of God and the translation.
We said that the natural types the Spiritual. And there is natural and Spiritual serpent's seed. The natural or physical is Cain's line. Its not a spoken Word of God like the serpent and humans but a man-made hybrid. God's Word is Spirit and It is Life. Cain and his offspring are DEATH.
God hates hybreeding. As the natural Serpent's seed came by mixing God's creation or manifested Word, Spiritual Serpent's seed comes by adding to or taking from His written Word. It's commonly known as denominationalism, and produces DEATH.
God put enmity between the seed of the Serpent and Adam's race, and between the Spiritual serpent's seed and the Christian. That enmity is still there.
